FATHER MELVIN DOUCETTE

Fr. Melvin Doucette was born in Prince Edward Island, Canada on March 2, 1939 and was ordained to the priesthood on June 22, 1968 with the Missionaries of Africa. He spent 29 years in Africa but is now back in Palmer Road near his elderly mother. Palmer Road is a small community near Tignish at the northwestern tip of Prince Edward Island. Fr. Doucette continues to be actively engaged in his healing, intercessory praying, teaching and counseling ministry.
In 1990, Fr. Doucette spent three months in Jerusalem to participate in a biblical course and a 30-day retreat. He has since been experiencing the suffering of Christ. What he has is not stigmata but a re-experiencing of the Passion. He says that at first, it happened every time he went into prayer. "For two weeks I was with Jesus undergoing the Passion […]. I experienced every moment of it from the agony in the Garden of Gethsemane […] until the Resurrection […]. Now every Holy Week I experience the same thing." Father says he didn't count the lashes but it seemed like more than forty. "I would scream from the pain at times. There was nobody physically beating me, but it felt as though I went through the whole scourging […]. The thorns in the crown are two inches long and just driven into the head. It was all very painful, but the most painful was the crucifixion itself—the nails going through the body and the time on the Cross and I had all this terrible feeling of not being able to breathe and this pain across the abdomen. It would last for about three hours. It was absolutely terrible; it was horrible! […]"
Jesus also sometimes shares part of His Passion with Fr. Doucette on Fridays. Father says, "I narrate in my book, The Art of Contemplative Prayer, some of my religious experiences […]. They […] deal with the Passion of Our Lord […]. When I was told to write this book, Jesus also wanted me to include some of the experiences I had in prayer. This book is for everyone. Any person can have a similar relationship with the Lord, and this book shows in a simple way how this can come about […].
“My book deals with our relationship with Jesus. Through contemplative prayer we can have an intimate and loving relationship with Our Lord […]. This prayer calls for discipline and an open heart. We should find time everyday to be alone with Jesus, and be receptive to all the graces and gifts He wants to give us. Jesus wants to lead us along the spiritual path on a journey of growth with Him. He will take away any load we may be carrying; He will heal us from any wound or hurt we may have, and will bring us to know our true priorities in life. As we contemplate and open our hearts to Jesus, we will find the peace, the joy, and the strength to live each day with Him. We will never be alone again to face the sorrow, pain, and struggle of life […].
“We simply have to find a quiet place and a straight chair and sit in a relaxed position. We close our eyes and begin to repeat the name of Jesus until we are completely focused on Him. Then we surrender to Him and allow Him to do whatever He wishes. We simply absorb all His love, His peace and joy. We let Him be in charge for the duration of the prayer. If a distraction comes, we gently return to repeating the name of Jesus until the distraction goes away, and continue our surrender to Him. We must not expect anything but accept whatever the Lord gives us. This is a prayer of the heart and Jesus will communicate in the centre of our heart. Remember He is free, and be patient […].If you have not contemplated before, just read the book on contemplative prayer and begin contemplating for 10 minutes. Once you are comfortable with 10 minutes, you can add a few more minutes until your prayer lasts 20 minutes. Contemplative prayer should last 20 to 30 minutes at a time. Almost every person can contemplate and even children as young as 12 years of age can profitably contemplate for 10 or more minutes. Remember that contemplative prayer is a gift from God. Our Lady tells us that this prayer is very dear to Jesus and to her. It makes our relationship with them grow continuously […]."

On January 30, 2002, Jesus said, "[…] I rejoice that tens of thousands are reading My messages and many are taking to heart what I tell them […]. May you respond to My love and cooperate with My grace. May you spread My messages to all your friends and relatives for I desire to speak to all. Some could translate the messages in other languages […]"

Fr. Doucette began contemplating in 1976 and has had locutions and visions in the present form since 1999; he also experienced them in Jerusalem during his 30-day retreat. Furthermore, to date Our Lady has appeared to him 15 times: on December 14, 2000; February 27, April 21, August 11 and December 14, 2001; December 14, 2002; March 25 and December 14, 2003; March 25 and December 14, 2004; March 23 and December 14, 2005; March 26 and December 14, 2006; and March 26, 2007.
Fr. Doucette wrote, “On April 21, 2001, Mary appeared to me for the third time and spoke these words, "[…] Melvin, I cannot end this conversation without mentioning my great desire to have a shrine built in my honour in Prince Edward Island. This is the great longing of my heart. When this shrine is built, my children will come in great numbers to visit it, to pray, and to ask for my help. I will bless all those who will come to honour me […]. Jesus […] will shower His gift of grace on all. His grace will be fruitful by many conversions, increase of faith, and return to the Church. He will give the gift of peace to all who come with a sincere heart.
“Melvin, I am the Lady of Prince Edward Island, as the picture I asked you to have painted testifies. As you clearly saw in the vision I gave you, the picture shows me standing on a piece of land in the shape of the island. This picture is dear to my heart. Have photographs made and may all the homes on the island and off the island, display this painting […]. I […] will bless the homes where this picture is honoured. Jesus and I guarantee that the shrine will be a great blessing on all the people of the island and beyond. It will be my special home […]"
A FEW EXCERPTS FROM THE MESSAGES
April 26, 2001. Jesus: "Melvin... I also want ... two religious societies, one for men and another for women. These will be bound to Me by vows and they will live in imitation of Me. They are called to evangelize their brothers and sisters and help them live at a deeper level of union with Me. These religious will animate the various communities for families and for youth. I am calling many to enter these communities. Pray that they will soon begin […].”
February 10, 2002. Jesus: "[…] When the twin societies are established together with the families of Mine and the youth of Mine, a new mentality will be born. Those who will join will be centred on Me and will live a simple lifestyle. They will reject the modern culture of materialism and consumerism in which so many people live. A new culture, the civilization of love, will begin as the present Pope has elaborated. I bless you all."
December 14, 2002. Our Lady: "[…] See me now as I hold the Child Jesus and stand on a piece of land shaped like the island. I am coming to live in your home, Melvin. Today and until the shrine is built, I will dwell in your home in Palmer Road. You could build me a special room where my picture could be displayed and where people could come to pray. I will touch all those who will come to ask for my help. Jesus will heal many there […] Melvin, you will feel my presence at all times and will know that my heart pulsates in your little house […].”
March 25, 2003. Our Lady: "[…] Melvin, Jesus has given you important charisms and gifts such as the gift of healing which He has strengthened in you. He will heal all the sick from any sickness if they believe in Him and if you pray for their healing. The Prayer Room will be the place of many great healings. I will reside there with Jesus after you bless it. The New Pentecost, the new awakening, will begin there in the Prayer Room. You will pray with all the people who will come there from all over the world. They will receive a great blessing from Jesus. They will be filled with the Holy Spirit and their faith will be strengthened […].
“Hundreds of thousands are reading these messages everyday. Through these words, Jesus is touching their hearts and bringing them close to Him. There is a war going on at this moment because of all the sins being committed in the world these days. If my children do not listen to my message and turn to Jesus, a more terrible war will start soon. If they turn to Jesus, this war can be avoided. I call all peoples to come to Jesus from all the continents of the world […]. I love you, my children, and I want your eternal salvation. Live continuously with Jesus and pray everyday.”
July 19, 2003. Our Lady: "Melvin […] I bless you for spreading my message throughout the world. My children […] I intercede for you all that you may know my Son […] and come to love and follow Him. Work steadily at developing a strong and intimate relationship with Him through daily prayer, especially contemplative prayer which Jesus loves dearly […]. I am delighted that the Prayer Room is being constructed* […]. Jesus, my Son, will bless all those who volunteered to work for me, or contributed money, or will contribute money for the building of the Prayer Room […] I am the Lady of Prince Edward Island. I will distribute many graces to you who will come to visit my little home among you. I love you all."
*The Prayer Room, which is attached to Fr. Doucette's home, was completed in January 2004. It can accommodate 80 people comfortably.
July 21, 2003. Our Heavenly Father: "[…] I thank you for honouring Mary, the Mother of Jesus, by building the Prayer Room […] as she requested. She will lead many to her Son who will touch their hearts and bring them close to Him […]. This island I call 'holy ground' as it is free from the scourge of abortion […]. I bless the Prayer Room […] Mary will reside there […] Jesus, her Son, will be there too. She will dispense the graces and gifts from His hands. The fire of the Holy Spirit will spread from the Prayer Room to all directions to light the hearts of all who are opened to Him. I bless you all who await with joy the beginning of this new era."
July 23, 2003. Jesus: "[…] I greet you all, My friends, spread as you are throughout the world […]. These days I am touching […] Prince Edward Island which is dear to Me and My Mother. As it is preserved from abortion, the killing of the unborn infants, I have decided to raise up this little piece of land. My light will shine from this island to touch the hearts of many. A fire will begin which will set the world on fire and turn the hearts of the people back to Me."
August 17, 2003. Jesus: "[…] The greatest gift I left you, My friends, is the gift of Myself in the Eucharist. ...I am still really present among you in this Sacrament […]. It is necessary for those who have the use of reason to come with a clean heart to receive Me […] If you do not receive the Eucharist, I do not live in you and you will not be saved. How can you have the life of God in you if you refuse to receive Me in the Eucharist? […] Because of the Eucharist, it is absolutely necessary to have priests who have received the Sacrament of Holy Orders through authentic apostolic succession. They alone can change the bread and wine into My very Body and Blood. I gave this power to the Apostles and they passed it on through their successors until today. Pray that many young men will answer the call to be priests. I bless you all."
August 18, 2003. Our Father: "[…] The Mother of Jesus has chosen Prince Edward Island as her special place and she wants a shrine there. I have blessed this island because it is free of abortions […]. Her new home […] (the Prayer Room) will surely touch the hearts of many on the island and beyond. The faith of many will be renewed and two new religious families will be born there […] the Contemplative Brothers and Sisters of Jesus. They will be imbued with the Spirit of Jesus. I bless […] all those who have helped in the construction of the building in any way. The graces from this holy place will spread throughout the world […]"
September 23, 2003. Jesus: "Melvin […] Now you are preparing yourself to go to Montreal to work in My name […] Teach them about contemplative prayer and about the desires of My dear Mother. I will accompany you and help you on these trips. I am calling every person to an awakening wherever they live in the world. So many people are far from Me. They are lost, confused by the contradictory messages of the world and they do not know where to find Me. Bring Me to them and show them how they can remain close to Me […]. I love you and I want you all to find Me […] I have given Melvin the task to spread My word in order to awaken faith in your hearts and to come and follow Me. The awakening has started and how I wish it was blazing already. Begin to pray, especially the 'heart-to-heart prayer' which is so dear to Me. I am showering you with great graces today […]. "
September 27, 2003. Our Lady: "Melvin […] I thank you for the Prayer Room […] I am coming to live in my humble place as your Mother. I know your sorrows and problems and I wish to be among you to help you. I also care deeply for your eternal salvation. I will bring you to my Son, Jesus. Prince Edward Island is special to me. It is the only province or state in North America that is free of abortion. From this holy ground, I call you all to turn away from sin and dedicate your lives to Jesus. Work, my children, to stop the killings of my dear innocent infants. These abortions break my heart. Pray the rosary everyday for the conversion of sinners […].”
